Key Features
The resistance butt welding process progressively heats the contact interface to melting point before applying 3,000N of upsetting force, forging a metallurgical bond across the full cross-section of the workpiece. This eliminates cold joints and produces welds that withstand subsequent rim forming, drilling, and road loads.
Pneumatic cylinders generate up to 6,500N of clamping force through heavy-duty electrode jaws, holding rim blanks firmly aligned throughout the weld cycle. Precise alignment prevents offset mismatches that would cause out-of-round finished rims or require costly rework.
The digital control panel centralizes current, timing, and pressure adjustments in one interface. Operators can store parameters for different rim sizes and materials, enabling fast changeovers and consistent quality across shifts without specialized welding expertise.
The welding head is built from cast and fabricated steel to absorb repeated clamping and upsetting loads. Water-cooled electrodes and transformer extend service intervals, while standard pneumatic and hydraulic components simplify spare parts sourcing worldwide.
While optimized for bicycle and motorcycle rim welding, the same clamping and welding system accommodates round pipe, square tube, flat strip, wire rod, and profile butt joints — giving manufacturers a single machine for multiple product lines.
Technical Specifications
The rim butt welding machine is suitable for the welding process after the rim is formed, so that the rim is formed. The welding electrode clamps the workpiece, and the two workpieces are close. As the current density increases, the contact of the workpiece begins to melt, and part of the metal solution overflows to form an initial butt welding node. Finally, high pressure is used for upsetting to cut off the current and the welding is completed.
